- The Challenge at the Edge of Creation
- Lilian describes a nearly universal but often unrecognised moment for women: being at the threshold of important, transformative work.
- This moment is characterized by an internal “pulling away” or discomfort that prompts actions like stretching, journaling, or other self-soothing routines.
- While these actions feel like self-care, they can serve as unconscious avoidance, leaving the meaningful work untouched.

- Lilian’s work focuses on the delicate intersection where somatic (nervous system-based) techniques and creative leadership meet.
- She addresses women, particularly high-capacity or high-achieving women who have practiced somatic self-regulation, and who may notice their tools are no longer moving them forward.
- Redefining Embodiment
- Traditional somatic teaching: "Listen to your body, move when it says move, rest when it says rest.”
- While this corrects historic overdrive and self-overriding patterns, it has its limits.
- True embodiment is not just honouring the body’s signals but staying in relationship with them while continuing to move creative work forward.
- Three States of Somatic Engagement at the Creative Edge
- 1. Regulation / Aligned Movement
- You notice discomfort, use a somatic tool, your system settles, clarity returns, and you resume the work.
- This is functional, embodied alignment and the ideal, as often described in teaching.
- 2. Conditioned Soothing / Looping Pattern
- The ritual of regulation becomes a precondition: “I must feel right before I begin.”
- Work is delayed by what sounds like wisdom, but actually becomes drift and lost momentum without meaningful re-engagement.
- 3. Somatic Avoidance / Self-Abandonment
- Resistance pops up and is automatically met with somatic activity.
- The body’s discomfort becomes an unquestionable authority, granting “spiritual permission” to avoid the edge of creation repeatedly.
- Long-term consequence: lack of action, fragmentation of identity, and lost creative power.
- 1. Regulation / Aligned Movement
- The Importance of Naming and Crossing the Threshold
- The moment of resistance is not a problem but a doorway to identity transformation.
- Avoidance is not of the work, but of the version of the self who can hold the work and lead.
- True growth occurs not before, but at the edge, in the practice of remaining and acting.
- Five-Step Framework to Engage at the Edge
- 1. Name the Edge with Precision
- Use a concrete sentence: “I am avoiding refining the second half of chapter 3.”
- Vagueness perpetuates avoidance; precision interrupts it.
- 2. Stay Without Fixing
- Sit with discomfort for 2–5 minutes, using no tools—just presence.
- This builds new capacity and is essential for integration.
- 3. Conscious, Intentional Movement (if needed)
- If somatic action is required, make it brief and purposeful (5–10 minutes max), aimed at supporting return to the work—not simply feeling better.
- 4. Immediate Re-Entry
- After the pause or movement, return to a single, concrete action (edit one paragraph, send an email, etc.).
- Contact with the work must be immediate and minimal if necessary; integrity breaks down when re-entry is skipped.
- 5. Build Capacity, Not Comfort
- Goal is not to create when comfortable, but to be able to create while holding discomfort.
- Sovereignty is the ability to hold contraction and uncertainty and move forward anyway.
- 1. Name the Edge with Precision
- Reframing Somatic Questions for Leadership
- Instead of “What does my body want?” (which, for some, becomes an avoidance tool), shift to, “What increases my capacity to stay and lead this creation?”
- The first question can outsource authority to the body as a manager; the second makes the body a partner, reclaiming leadership.
- Final Guidance and Closing
- Protecting oneself from the “edges of being seen” is often at play; it deserves respect, but not rule.
- True embodiment is not state-dependent (only able to act when aligned), but the capacity to act despite internal weather.
- Ordinary, repeated crossing of the edge (not crisis) leads to integrity and inner virtue—hallmarks of sustainable, embodied leadership.
